ABOUT THE TRAILBLAZING TEACHER:
My journey to becoming a teacher wasn't always the most glorious of travels. I stumbled, fell, was cut, and bruised. Stumbled over my calling. Fell in and out of love with the educational system. Cut by my own mistakes. Bruised by my own failures, and those who spoke doubt and fear over me....

It wasn't until my student teaching year, that I realized why my journey was so rough and toilsome. My calling was not to be a highway traveler - following a curriculum, and moving with the traffic of scripted lessons. My calling was to be a trailblazer... To cut the path that had not yet been developed or established. To revolutionize what it meant to be TEACHING WITH ZEAL. To model what passionate teaching can look like - when it strays from the trail of mediocrity - and goes beyond boundaries, expectations and tradition.

And so - I began. One lesson. One challenge. One step into the wilderness, with creativity and innovation in hand.

I was called to be The Trailblazing Teacher.

ABOUT MARIAH BUSH:
Hi Ya'll! Welcome to my website!

I teach 5th graders, in a small town in Southeast Kansas. My passion has, and always will be to trailblaze, teach, and inspire those around me; from students to other educators. With the influence of my early high school years, spent in multiple State choirs, musicals and plays, to my years at Pittsburg State University in the music program - I have always loved incorporating the 'entertainment' approach to my learning style! From music, to costumes, to smells, to changing the complete layout of my room - I am all about giving students an EXPERIENCE to buy into, for their learning!

I am a proud lover of sloths and highland cows, and an addict of iced coffee! I have a strong passion for music and teaching, but also love working with teenagers in my local church's youth group! Had I not pursued teaching or ministry full time - my very closer runner up of career choice would have been interior design! I have a love for planning, color schemes, decor, and making spaces personalized to the people who inhabit there! There's a good chance if it's home decor, and it comes in burnt orange, beige or ivory - I've got to have it!

When I'm not blogging, or sharing work on my teaching social media platforms, I enjoy an evening relaxing in my rocking chair on my front porch, with a cup of coffee. Aside from having the ability to recall songs and improvise them into parodies on the fly - I also have a love for many quotable shows such as FRIENDS, the Office, and New Girl. Chances are, if you are around me long enough, you'll hear me quote one - or all!

If my teaching career had one motto it would be; "Every student has a name. Every name has a story. Every story matters every day."

For me - teaching all points back to one main theme. MY STUDENTS ARE WORTH IT. They are worth the costumes, the lesson planning, the songs, the characters, the experiences, the late nights, and the effort. And if the only place they have the chance to experience that love and care is inside my classroom - I will teach in a way that leaves them with no doubt that they are!
